Spurs Film Study: The Play Transforming the Offense

How Mitch Johnson has San Antonio scoring in bunches without their superstars.

Welcome to another edition of Spurs Film Study, an ongoing series where we examine the game tape to highlight the nuances often missed during a surface-level viewing of the action. While a disastrous series of events has left Victor Wembanyama, De’Aaron Fox, and Gregg Popovich on the shelf for the rest of the season, the coaching staff has found a way for San Antonio to score at will.

Even with the Silver and Black missing their stars and celebrated playcaller, they have somehow produced a top ten offense in the NBA since the All-Star Break. Though the roster has unquestionably stepped up in the face of several massive absences, one play has helped Mitch Johnson set the tone, move the ball, and overcome a striking lack of advantage creation from his ball handlers.

Thank you for tuning in, Spurs fans! Let us know what you want to see from the Spurs over the last leg of their schedule!
