The Vic-and-Roll: Subscriber Update
We're still at the beginning, but some essential changes are on the way.
First off, thank you so much for supporting The Vic-and-Roll. Going independent was something I pondered for quite some time, but IÂ was always too afraid that my writing would go unrecognized and overlooked among the boundless sea of basketball content already occupying the online arena. One tremendous leap of faith later, and Spurs fans have helped me amass 350 subscribers and nearly 20,000 views in only four months.
While those numbers pale in comparison to the reach my pieces had on platforms like SB Nation and FanSided, seeing so many people follow me into unknown territory and create accounts to read my Spurs words was the assurance I needed to believe this was the right path for eventually making Substack my sole full-time job. With that said, we are still far from accomplishing that goal, so we are adjusting our game plan.
Contracting came with drawbacks, but those guaranteed payments for meeting quotas made it easier to get through the offseason without worrying about affording essential things like groceries, rent, utilities, gas, and insurance. Exiting that line of work was a necessary step, but it also means I must search elsewhere for financial stability as your Spurs enter the inevitable lull of another summer outside of the playoff picture.
I have started applying for positions that will allow me to pay the bills, and the volume of content on our site will slow down during this process, especially once I find a 9-to-5. While I will post weekly as often as possible, everything published here will be free. We cannot set the price any lower than $5, but know that your contribution covers the costs of the statistical databases we use to bolster our Silver and Black coverage.
If you want to see more articles, videos, and podcast episodes, please consider sharing The Vic-and-Roll with your friends and family. Every eye on my work moves me closer to achieving my lifelong aspiration of covering my hometown team. One more HUGE THANK YOU to Spurs Nation. Without y’all, I wouldn’t be in a place where pursuing such an ambitious dream feels like an attainable reality. GO, SPURS, GO!
You’re the man Noah! Thanks for your content. Looking forward to more and for what’s to come from you.
Hate to see you scaling back the content but still gonna be tuning into everything you post. Selfishly a little happy to see everything being free soon but will definitely become a paid subscriber once my money situation is a bit better. Keep chugging along Noah.
