I like the move as a stopgap for their point guard play, but I’m slightly skeptical of just how seamless the on-court fit might be! Still more than happy to have CP3 and his BBIQ in San Antonio!
We def need an upgrade at the 3 and backup 4,5 positions. Not a fan of Harris, just smells like perpetual disappointment like an RJ 2.0 experience. I’d like to give Cissoko some run at the 3. On paper he has more upside than Julian. Potentially Castle, Cissoko, Sochan as switchable point of attack defenders with Wemby holding the back line 💪. 🤯 just not sure how the hell you space that.
Spacing will be a real issue as long as you have that many guys who are low-volume, low-efficiency standstill shooters! The Spurs will never be able to play them together for long stretches if one of them doesn’t develop in that regard! Harris signed with the Pistons earlier, so no need to worry about him disappointing you! Still plenty of time left for San Antonio to get another deal done today!
Having 48 mins of sound point guard play is going to make a huge difference (probably should say the potential for 48 mins Castle/Wesley likely get tick) If we can add some shooting at the forward spots I feel like we have a shot of making the playin assuming reasonable health.
Said this to Brian earlier, but I still have questions about how well CP3 fits with everyone else in the starting lineup. At first glance, he feels like a defensive liability who doesn’t offer much rim pressure. The C&S numbers are solid, but not sure they are good enough for him to play positive minutes alongside Castle or Sochan? Maybe I’m overthinking it a bit!
It's always challenging to predict how aging will impact a player. I thought he performed quite well last year. If he maintains a similar level of play, he will be a significant upgrade over the non-Tre point guard minutes, which were a complete disaster. I agree that any lineups featuring Sochan and Castle will likely struggle. Hopefully, we can sign another player to start. We should also aim to minimize any lineup crossover with Sochan and Castle.
CP3 is pulling a hammi if he goes hard longer than 20 minutes. Just enjoy him like old man River Walk. He’ll organize the offense, hold the kids accountable on the floor, have some flashbacks every now and then when you’ll wish he’s ten years younger and on the team. Brian and Pop were like “sure, CP you can start, no problem.” In the back of their minds they’re like, yea he’s toast after 6 weeks starting. Then we can see what Castle has at the 1.
I'm pretty much fine with whatever way they want to utilize Chris Paul! Start him and hold him to 20-25 minutes per game? Great! Have him come off the bench and thrust Stephon Castle into the fire? Sure! I'm more concerned with how the team staggers Castle, Jones, and Sochan! Can't have too many non-shooters sharing the floor!
Would love to add a reliable veteran wing who can shoot and defend at a solid level! And I know I shared this on Twitter, but Paul averaged 11.9 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 7.3 assists on .462/.442/.840 shooting splits in 18 starts for the Warriors last season! Small sample size, but solid numbers that make me wonder if he has more left in the tank as a starter, especially alongside Wemby!
Actually like the move. Gives the rookie from UConn a mentor and gives SA a legitimate PG threat who can play for a year [or two]
